Upstate Animal Rescue Foundation of South Carolina

Animal overpopulation is an epidemic in our society. Many animal welfare organizations focus on providing safe care for unwanted animals, as well as providing education and alternatives to individuals wanting to be responsible pet owners. The Bedminster Group has selected one such organization for their July 2013 donation; the Upstate Animal Rescue Foundation of South Carolina (UARFSC).

Established in 2005, UAR has saved over 5,000 animals from euthanasia.  Today the staff rescue close to 1,000 animals a year from shelters that euthanize animals they no longer have room to house. These fortunate animals receive necessary medical attention, vaccines, spay/neuter surgery and are placed in a foster home or sheltered at UAR until they find a “forever” home, UAR believes that pets are part of the family and as such, their animals are available for indoor adoptions only – not for living full-time outdoors.

Upstate area county shelters suffer euthanasia rates from 80-99% making spay/neuter services a focal point of Upstate Animal Rescue outreach program.  If every current and future pet parent makes the important connection of curbing pet over-population through spay/neuter programs, the education process will catch on. The UAR website provides information on  low-cost spay/neuter programs (including feral cats), available to residents in the South Carolina Upstate, made possible through Animal Allies in Spartanburg, and  the Anderson County Humane Society.
