Kitty Condo Communities on the Rise in the Lowcountry

In a continuing effort to support the nation’s homeless pet population, Bedminster is focusing on a local club that cares for many of the feral cats in our communities. The Cat Lovers United Club of Sun City Hilton Head provides for the care and welfare of area felines through education and community service.

Club members currently manage five Community Cat Colonies (formerly known as Feral Colonies) in the Sun City and Bluffton area.  Members volunteer for community feeding assignments and trap, neuter and return most cats to the community colonies to keep the population down.  If they discover a friendly, socialized stray, they will trap the cat and try to find it a "forever home".

Currently, members manage two colonies in Sheridan Park, one at Pet Smart and two within Sun City. Not only are the cats fed and cared for but a talented club member builds cat shelters for each of the colonies to protect the cats from the elements (see pictures).

Cat Lovers members hold fundraisers to purchase food for the cat colonies, and materials for the shelters, so we thought it was time to lend another helping hand to their outstanding efforts.

For more information or to make a donation of cat food for the cat colonies which is ALWAYS welcome, please contact John Decker at tdecker2@sc.rr.com or 843-705-4183.
