Paws & Stripes - Service Dogs for Wounded Veterans

Recently the Department of Veterans Affairs reduced funding for providers of Service animals to veterans suffering from Post –Traumatic Stress Disorder.  Paws and Stripes™ is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in Rio Rancho, New Mexico that works to provide service dogs for wounded veterans of our United States military suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury. The service dogs are obtained only from shelters, and are trained by professionals specializing in service dogs. It is the aim of this organization to provide these dogs and training at no cost to the veteran.

Paws and Stripes was incorporated in 2010. Jim Stanek, one of the founders of Paws and Stripes™, was sent home from his third tour in Iraq for injuries he received on deployment. After nine months in treatment at Brook Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX, Jim discovered that the most comfort and relief he found was in the presence of therapy dogs. After being either turned down or unable to pay for service dogs from multiple organizations, he decided to start a non-profit organization to provide these animals to veterans.

We are excited to support the goals of Paws and Stripes and we encourage you to review this organization on their web page at www.pawsandstripes.org. They can also be contacted at (505) 999-1201.
